Martin Lloyd has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after subjecting a woman to a prolonged and brutal campaign of violence and sexual assault. The 39-year-old perpetrator inflicted serious injuries using various weapons, including a baseball bat, chains, and a machete, leaving his victim with a broken nose and leg injuries.
The assaults escalated shortly after the woman underwent significant surgery, with Lloyd raping her within 48 hours of the procedure. He later committed a second rape amid another violent attack that resulted in a footprint being left on her face. Despite these traumatic experiences, the woman managed to escape and contacted police in October of the previous year.
Following her disclosure of years of sustained abuse, law enforcement launched an investigation which led to Lloyd’s arrest and multiple charges. He was convicted of three counts of rape, two counts of actual bodily harm, and using controlling and coercive behaviour.

At Birmingham Crown Court on 14 September, the judge described Lloyd’s actions as a “campaign of violence.” He will serve 19 years in custody, followed by six years on an extended licence.
Detective Constable Stephen Dunford from the West Midlands Police’s adult abuse investigation team commented: “Domestic abuse often remains hidden, with victims sometimes unaware they are being abused. In this case, the victim’s courage to come forward was vital. Combined with existing records from professional agencies, her evidence left no doubt regarding Lloyd’s conduct.”
DC Dunford also highlighted Lloyd’s long history of domestic abuse convictions involving multiple women and noted the absence of any remorse for his actions. He emphasised the ongoing support provided to the victim since she reported the abuse and commended her bravery in sharing her harrowing experiences.
