A recent police operation on Walsall’s Beechdale estate has resulted in problem tenants receiving formal warnings amid a rise in crime and anti-social behaviour. West Midlands Police, working closely with Walsall Council and local housing providers including Amplius, have stepped up efforts to curb incidents such as shoplifting, vandalism, criminal damage, and drug use in the area.
The situation escalated to the point where a communal front door at flats on Stephenson Square had to be removed due to persistent criminal damage, accompanied by graffiti on the surrounding walls. To address the growing concerns, police were granted a section 35 dispersal order last Wednesday, which allowed them to move groups suspected of causing trouble in the vicinity of Stephenson Square and Stephenson Avenue for 48 hours.
An increased police presence focused on removing individuals involved in anti-social behaviour, ensuring the community feels safer. Officers from the Problem Solving and Priorities Team, supported by neighbourhood officers in Bloxwich, have visited tenants. Warning letters have been issued to those implicated, with tenancy action to follow where appropriate.

PC Paul Benton, from the Problem Solving and Priorities Team, stated, “We understand the community’s concerns and are taking decisive steps in partnership with Walsall Council and housing providers to tackle these problems. Such behaviour will not be tolerated.”
Councillor Adam Hicken, portfolio holder for Enforcement and Safe Communities at Walsall Council, echoed this commitment: “We take these issues extremely seriously. Our joint efforts with police and housing partners demonstrate our resolve to protect residents. We will continue until we achieve lasting improvements in safety and community well-being.”
