Sean Fletcher, well known for his roles on Countryfile and Good Morning Britain, has shared an emotional tribute to his late mother, who passed away from bowel cancer just weeks after being diagnosed. Opening up about the devastating experience, Sean also highlights how spending time outdoors has been crucial in nurturing his mental health.
The television presenter and avid runner recalled the heartbreak of losing his mother eight years ago. “She kept her diagnosis to herself for a while,” Sean revealed. “I lived in Wales and she lived in East Essex, so visiting her was a bit of a challenge. When I finally saw her in hospital, I realized just how serious things were. Three and a half weeks later, she was gone. It was just horrific.”
Sean’s grief inspired him to become an ambassador for Bowel Cancer UK, dedicating himself to raising awareness of the illness. Reflecting on his journey, he shared how completing the London Marathon in her memory was both emotional and supportive. “The crowd’s encouragement was overwhelming and helped me through some tough moments.”

In his current role fronting GO Outdoors’ autumn-winter collection, Sean emphasizes the importance of the natural world for mental wellbeing. “Much of my work involves being outside, whether meeting farmers or adventure seekers. The outdoors really recharges me,” he said. “Whether it’s a park in London or wild countryside, being outside nourishes the soul.”
Sean also stresses that access to the countryside should be inclusive. “It’s vital that people from all backgrounds—whether pensioners in the Cotswolds or kids in Manchester—can enjoy the outdoors. Having the right clothing is a big part of that, which is why I’m proud to work with GO Outdoors.”
Highlighting practical gear, Sean praised the versatility of the Peter Storm 3-in-1 jacket and the importance of layering when spending time outside.
As a passionate advocate for outdoor living, Sean Fletcher continues to encourage everyone to embrace nature for both physical and emotional health.
