Alan Halsall, the beloved actor behind Tyrone Dobbs on Coronation Street, has signed a new contract to continue his iconic role on the ITV soap. Having joined the series in 1998 at just 15 years old, Halsall is now entering his 28th year portraying the cherished mechanic.
A source close to the production told The Sun, “Alan was thrilled to sign his contract earlier this year. He’s made Tyrone into a cobbles classic, so bosses are delighted he’s agreed to stay for at least another year. There are big things coming up for the soap and Tyrone in the coming year.”
Tyrone’s journey on the cobbles has been a rich and emotional one. Introduced alongside his adoptive mother Jackie (Margi Clarke), Tyrone quickly became like family to Weatherfield legends Jack and Vera Duckworth (Bill Tarmey and Liz Dawn). His position at the heart of the community has remained strong throughout the years.

Over time, Tyrone has been central to some of the soap’s most gripping storylines — from the explosive love triangle involving first wife Molly Dobbs (Vicky Binns) and Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) during the 50th anniversary celebrations, to uncovering the truth about his drug-addicted birth mother Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney), and building a bond with his grandmother Evelyn (Dame Maureen Lipman).
Recently, viewers were left stunned when Tyrone became the victim of a devastating hit-and-run, part of Carl Webster’s (Jonathan Howard) car theft plot. Halsall revealed that the stunt was kept tightly under wraps, leaving fans in suspense about Tyrone’s fate.
In an interview with Metro, Halsall shared, “Initially, there is a concern that he might not get up at all. There’s real fear there—not just from Tyrone but from Fiz and the kids and his mum and gran. They don’t know if he’ll walk again or how life is going to look going forward. But he knows they will all try to stick together and face what the future holds.”
The accident left Tyrone wheelchair-bound, with his wife Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) balancing the demands of caring for him while raising their daughters Hope and Ruby. Despite these challenges, Halsall promises “big things coming up” for his character in the next year, exciting fans eager for the next chapter of Weatherfield drama.
