Clarifying the DWP Christmas Bonus: £10 Payment Remains, No Increase to £200

Recent social media posts have circulated claims that the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is raising its annual Christmas Bonus from £10 to £200 in 2025. However, these reports have been thoroughly debunked by the fact-checking organization Full Fact.

Full Fact confirmed that the Christmas Bonus will stay at £10 for 2025, dispelling rumors of any increase. While the DWP does offer larger payments through certain other benefit schemes, the traditional Christmas Bonus amount remains unchanged.

The organization highlighted multiple videos spreading misinformation about the bonus rise. One such video even stated it was generated by artificial intelligence and intended solely for informational and entertainment purposes, cautioning viewers to verify facts through reputable sources.

Despite these clarifications, confusion remains among some benefit recipients, who have inquired about eligibility and whether the reported increase is genuine.

To provide context, the DWP Christmas Bonus is a long-standing support payment introduced in 1972 amid high inflation by Edward Heath’s Conservative government. It is designed to help individuals receive extra financial support during the costly festive season.

Recipients of one of 23 qualifying benefits automatically receive this one-off, tax-free £10 payment, which is typically deposited during the first full week of December each year.
