A popular Birmingham bar has been ordered to implement significant hygiene improvements after inspectors discovered mouse droppings scattered across the kitchen.
Coyote Ugly, an American-themed bar located on Broad Street and known for its lively atmosphere and bartenders dancing on the bar, received a low hygiene score of ‘1’ (major improvement necessary) following an inspection on August 27. Any score below ‘3’ is considered a fail by the Food Standards Agency.
Inspectors reported widespread evidence of mice activity throughout the kitchen and demanded immediate and effective pest control measures to eliminate the issue. Additionally, a pack of bacon with a use-by date of August 26 was found in the refrigerator, a violation since selling or offering expired food is illegal.

The bar also faced criticism for poor management of flies in both the bar area and near the cellar entrance, with inspectors calling for prompt action to address the infestation.
Coyote Ugly failed to comply with allergy and intolerance regulations as well: a pepperoni pizza was labeled “may contain soya,” yet soya was present in the pepperoni ingredients, indicating inadequate allergen information.
Cleanliness issues extended to the ice machine, which inspectors described as dirty, urging a thorough cleaning and disinfection.
Though Coyote Ugly operates nine outlets nationwide, the Birmingham location was the sole venue failing hygiene standards at the time of the report on November 4.
Efforts to obtain a response from Coyote Ugly were unsuccessful.
