Birmingham City manager Chris Davies has issued a candid message to striker Kyogo Furuhashi: it’s time to start scoring. Despite a promising reputation and a strong scoring record at Celtic, Kyogo has yet to open his Championship account with the Blues, raising concerns over his impact this season.
Since joining Birmingham City, Kyogo has only managed to find the back of the net once—a tap-in during a Carabao Cup match against Sheffield United in August. However, his league form remains dry, having missed ten ‘big chances’ this season, the highest among players still searching for their first goal.
Chris Davies has stood by the 30-year-old throughout his challenging transition into English football. “Kyogo has been frustrated by his form, probably more than anyone,” Davies explains. The striker arrived with hopes of revitalizing his career after a difficult six-month spell at Rennes and aims to return to Japan’s national squad. Despite creating and receiving multiple scoring opportunities, the goals just haven’t come.

Davies emphasizes Kyogo’s professionalism and dedication. “He’s a model pro—always working hard in training, respectful, and determined. The key now is for him to find that crucial edge, that finishing touch.” The manager believes that once Kyogo breaks his drought, confidence will follow, unlocking his potential for the remainder of the season.
The support from Blues fans remains strong, with many advocating for Kyogo to start ahead of Marvin Ducksch. They continue to cheer him on, hopeful that he can turn his fortunes around and become the prolific striker Birmingham City needs.
Davies is clear about what’s required: “Kyogo has to make it happen. He knows that. This is the test of a striker—converting chances into goals. He wants to succeed here; his teammates back him, but ultimately, it’s down to him to deliver.”
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Kyogo Furuhashi to see if he can overcome his current struggles and fulfill the promise that brought him to St Andrew’s.
