Chris Davies has accepted full responsibility following Birmingham City’s devastating 6-1 defeat to Premier League side Brentford at St Andrew’s, marking the club’s worst home loss since 2014. The Blues were overwhelmed as Brentford scored three goals in each half to progress comfortably into the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Nathan Collins netted twice for the visitors, while Callum Wilson, Aaron Hickey, Mikkel Damsgaard and Igor Thiago also found the net past Birmingham goalkeeper Ryan Allsop.
Reflecting on the outcome, Davies said, “It was a very tough and painful evening; losing 6-1 at home is incredibly disappointing. Brentford were clearly superior in every aspect, playing with pace, power and confidence. While credit must be given to them, I must take ultimate responsibility for our performance."

He added, “The players must also hold themselves accountable because we were far from where we need to be tonight. To our supporters, I apologise sincerely for this result. I understand the frustration given they paid to watch their team lose in such a manner.”
Despite the harsh defeat, Davies praised the fans for their unwavering support. “The supporters were very good under difficult circumstances. Many stayed until the end, offering claps and appreciation, even amid some boos. This club has a rich history and strong expectations, and it’s important we stand together not only in success but in adversity. At the same time, we accept the criticism we rightly deserve.”
