Birmingham City manager Chris Davies has revealed that the club has already started planning for the January transfer window. Following the conclusion of the summer transfer period, during which Birmingham City secured seven new players to strengthen the squad for another promotion push, attention is now turning to potential additions in January.
Liam Millar was the final signing in the summer window, completing the squad’s planned strengthening. While there was speculation and hope among supporters that the club might add an additional forward, Birmingham City instead declined late interest from German striker Marvin Ducksch, who remains part of the 25-man squad until January.
The club showed interest in notable targets such as Ibrahim Osman and Joe Gelhardt over the summer, indicating a willingness to invest in the squad. With that context, Davies confirmed that early discussions with the club’s owners, Knighthead, have already taken place regarding the upcoming transfer window.

“The planning for January started yesterday really because there are things going on and conversations I was having with the club and the owners was with that in mind,” Davies said. “The plan is to see where we are approaching that window and exactly what we feel we need to push on.
“January signings can be absolutely critical in this league to push you on. It helped us last year so we have to try to be active in that window if we need it.”
