Chris Davies Details Birmingham City’s January Transfer Strategy and Eiran Cashin’s Future

Chris Davies has revealed that Birmingham City plans to target several crucial areas for improvement during the January transfer window, with a particular focus on central defence. Currently positioned within the Championship play-off race after 20 games, the Blues are eager to make strategic moves despite challenges, especially with their away form.

According to Davies, the club intends to be proactive and ambitious in the upcoming market. Although the squad has good depth, some loan players may return to their parent clubs, and striker Lyndon Dykes’ future remains uncertain. These factors could pave the way for new signings to bolster the team.

“We’re assessing a few key positions as we approach January,” Davies stated. “Our objective is to emerge from the window stronger and more competitive.”

Birmingham’s defensive line has faced instability this season; captain Christoph Klarer has partnered with three different defenders so far. Phil Neumann has frequently filled in following Jack Robinson’s two red cards and Eiran Cashin’s inconsistent performances, notably against Sheffield Wednesday.

Cashin, currently on loan from Brighton, is expected to return in January to seek more regular playing time elsewhere. Davies suggested that if Cashin departs, it could open the door for a new defensive signing.

“A lot depends on Cashin’s situation,” Davies explained. “He hasn’t featured as much as we’d hoped, and when dealing with loan players, it’s important to be fair with their development and opportunities.”

Davies added that Cashin’s recent contributions, such as coming off the bench in the QPR match, show potential for reintegration into the squad but acknowledged that the club’s plans will become clearer after January’s decisions.
