Chopstix, a popular noodle bar chain, has submitted a planning application to Birmingham City Council to establish a new branch at 64 New Street. The venture aims to revamp the shop frontage as part of its transformation plans.
This site has seen recent turnover, having housed Boojum—a burrito restaurant that operated for just one year before closing last year. Boojum itself had replaced Second Cup Coffee at the location, which shut its doors at the end of 2024.
Chopstix already runs a successful outlet on Bull Street in Birmingham and maintains several venues nationwide, including locations at service stations such as Hopwood Services and holiday resorts like Butlins.

While the chain has been contacted to clarify whether the proposed New Street branch would supplement the Bull Street location or replace it, a relocation seems unlikely, especially since the Bull Street outlet recently underwent refurbishment.
The public consultation for the application opened on June 2 and will remain active until July 2. Residents and interested parties are encouraged to submit comments via the Birmingham City Council planning portal by referencing application code 2026/01535/PA.
If approved, Chopstix will join a thriving food scene on New Street, which includes Japanese restaurant Yakinori and a cluster of chicken eateries known as the Chicken Quarter—home to KFC, Wing Stop, Nando’s, Popeyes, and Dave’s Hot Chicken.
