Chemical Spill at Midlands School Hospitalizes Five After Science Equipment Incident

A chemical spill at Biddulph High School in Knypersley, Staffordshire, led to five people being hospitalized on the morning of Tuesday, November 18. Among those affected were three teenagers who required medical attention after exposure to a hazardous substance.

Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene shortly after 10 a.m., including a hazardous area response team, fire crews, and paramedics from the West Midlands Ambulance Service. Firefighters worked promptly to isolate the chemical and ventilate the school building to ensure safety.

According to the West Midlands Ambulance Service, six individuals were initially assessed at the scene. While five were transported to the Royal Stoke University Hospital for precautionary checks, one patient was discharged without the need for further hospital treatment.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed their involvement, noting the swift isolation of the chemical and effective ventilation of the premises. They emphasized that the five transported to hospital were taken as a precaution.

In a statement addressed to parents, Biddulph High School explained that the incident originated from an issue with a piece of science equipment. Emergency protocols were followed, and the school confirmed that the site is now safe for regular activities to resume. The school expressed gratitude for the prompt response of staff, students, and emergency personnel, reaffirming their commitment to the wellbeing and safety of the school community.
