Charity in Leo Ross’s Name Urges Youths to ‘Put Down Your Weapons’ as Teen Killer Sentenced

A charity established in memory of Leo Ross, a 12-year-old boy tragically killed in a random stabbing, has called on young people to reject weapons as his teenage killer was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Leo’s Legacy Foundation, founded to commemorate Leo and raise awareness about knife crime, shared the message following the sentencing of Leo’s 14-year-old attacker. The boy fatally stabbed Leo last January as the young schoolboy walked home in Hall Green.

On February 10, just a day before Leo’s 14th birthday, the attacker was convicted and handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 13 years. The charity’s trustees expressed hope that this outcome sends a clear warning to other youths contemplating carrying weapons.

In a heartfelt statement, Leo’s Legacy Foundation reflected on the loss: “Today was a day that was long awaited. Leo’s killer was sentenced to a minimum of 13 years in prison. While nothing can bring Leo back, we hope this sentencing discourages other young people from carrying weapons.

“Leo was a wonderful boy who brought light and hope to everyone he met. He was clever, polite, well-spoken, and had a life full of promise. Like any typical 12-year-old, he enjoyed playing on his PlayStation and spending time with friends, but he always put others first.

“Although he is gone, Leo will never be forgotten. Through this charity, we aim to make his name synonymous with life-saving efforts and to create a safer environment for all children.

“We thank everyone who has supported us this year and look forward to ongoing support as we continue our mission.”
