Celebrity SAS Calls in Medical Expert as Ryan Moloney Faces Mental Health Struggles

Ryan Moloney, beloved for his 30-year role as Jarrod “Toadfish” Rebecchi on Neighbours, was compelled to leave the Channel 4 series Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins following a significant mental health episode. The 46-year-old actor’s struggles unfolded during Sunday night’s episode, highlighting the intense challenge the show poses—even for seasoned performers.

After revealing his ADHD diagnosis, Moloney visibly struggled in the camp. He voiced confusion about whether he had taken his medication and appeared disoriented about simple tasks like managing his knife and fork. Fellow contestant Dani Dyer noticed his distress and, upon asking if it was the worst he had felt in some time, watched as he broke down, describing his symptoms as “uncontrollable” while she comforted him.

In a candid interview, Moloney opened up about the impact of ADHD on his life: “Before my diagnosis, I faced a lot of confusion managing daily life and the constant flow of thoughts in my head. My brain does not switch off. Even when utterly exhausted, I struggle to fall asleep.”

The show’s directing team monitored the situation closely and, concerned by his mental state, brought in medical support. Former Royal Marine Commando and Special Boat Service veteran Jason Fox—known as Foxy—expressed his concern, acknowledging that Moloney’s challenges stemmed from a real condition, not a lack of willpower. Dr. Gareth, the medical expert called in, emphasized the risks of continuing the course without effective coping tools, warning it could lead to negative experiences for Moloney.

Foxy underscored the importance of robust mental health in high-pressure environments like the special forces, where operating under extreme stress is paramount. Recognizing the severity of the situation, Foxy called Moloney aside, and the actor ultimately chose to withdraw from the challenge.

Moloney expressed his regret, stating, “I would love to be available for all of the challenge… but I am going to withdraw.” Foxy reassured him, saying, “I think it is the right move. This is just a course, and you have the rest of your life to embrace. Hold your head high—you’ve been awesome.”
