The Farthings, a popular pub in Castle Bromwich owned by the Stonegate Group, has submitted plans to Solihull Council aiming to expand its beer garden. The proposed extension is designed to enhance the outdoor space for patrons, making it more inviting and boosting business.
According to the planning application, the beer garden located on Green Lane will increase by approximately five metres by nine and a half metres, encroaching onto the existing tarmac car park to the west of the premises. The new section will be enclosed with low-level timber picket fencing consistent with the pub’s current exterior design, ensuring it blends seamlessly with the existing environment while preserving local trees and habitats.
Enhancements will include the installation of astroturf flooring and additional festoon lighting that will complement the current outdoor illumination. Access to the expanded area will be facilitated by new stepped entry points leading from the existing seating area and pub entrance. While the parking layout will be adjusted, the number of spaces will reduce slightly from 11 to 8, accommodating the enlargement. The introduction of five new benches will increase beer garden capacity by roughly 40 covers.
