Tokin Tea, a beloved café specializing in Taiwanese cuisine and famous for its bubble tea, has closed its doors for good in Sutton Coldfield’s Gracechurch Centre. After opening on December 9, 2023, the café quickly became known for its unique dishes, including swordfish, and the popular bubble tea featuring chewy tapioca pearls.
Despite the growing popularity of bubble tea across the UK, Tokin Tea was unable to sustain its business and officially closed on Monday, November 3, 2025. The owners shared a heartfelt closure notice on the café’s storefront, thanking customers for their support and kindness over the years. They announced a short break and hinted at a new chapter ahead, inviting patrons to follow their Instagram and Facebook pages for future updates.
The message read: “Closure Notice. TOKIN TEA closed on Monday, 3 November 2025 - our final trading day. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone for your support and kindness over the years. We’ll be taking a short break and moving towards a new chapter. That’s the true meaning of “TOKIN”: to share roots, stories, and moments together, wherever we are in the world. Please follow our Instagram/Facebook @tokin.tea for future updates and announcements. Thank you for being part of our journey. See you again somewhere new!”

Tokin Tea’s closure adds to a series of recent departures from the Gracechurch Centre. Neighbouring businesses such as Prints and Treats, Bodycare, and the M&S Food concession have all left in recent months. Meanwhile, other shops like EE and Hays Travel have relocated within the centre, while Greggs moved to a new location in the Parade area earlier this year.
The Gracechurch Centre continues to evolve, with Specsavers planning a move from the Red Rose Centre into the former Laura Ashley space, and Silver Tree Bakery expanding opposite the TG Jones newsagents site. New health and dental services, including Tooth Club, have also opened recently.
Meanwhile, significant redevelopment is underway with the upcoming Harvey Jones department store set to occupy the former BHS site at the station end of the centre, signaling ongoing changes in the local retail landscape.
As Tokin Tea closes its chapter in Sutton Coldfield, the Gracechurch Centre remains a hub of dynamic change and renewal.
