Butcher swiftly pursues and recovers stolen meat worth £100 in Chelmsley Wood

A quick-thinking butcher in Solihull swiftly chased down a man suspected of shoplifting meat worth around £100 from a local store.

The incident occurred on Thursday, 20 August, at Premier Country Meats, located on Craig Croft in Chelmsley Wood. The suspect was captured on CCTV carrying three tubs of chicken fillets and a breakfast pack as he hurried towards the exit.

Dominic Brown, owner of the family-run butcher shop, explained to BirminghamLive that such incidents are rare, with only three similar cases in the past eight years. Dominic’s son, Jay, immediately gave chase when the man broke into a run.

“My son ran out, and because of the weight, the man put the items down and quickly ran off,” said Dominic. “Jay is 24 and quite fit, so he was able to run after him.”

The meat was successfully recovered and returned to the shop. Dominic noted the strong community support, saying, “Everyone who shops here hates to see this happen. My wife and son both work in the shop, and we take pride in our well-known family business.”

Although the shop has not yet reported the incident to the police, Dominic indicated they will be doing so and leaving the matter in their hands.

Premier Country Meats can be found at Craig Croft, Dunster Road, Chelmsley Wood, B37 7UU, continuing to serve the local community with quality products.
