Builder Risks Safety Using Makeshift Pallet Platform Loaded with Breeze Blocks

A builder in Chelmsley Wood, Solihull, was seen risking his safety by standing atop a stack of wooden pallets loaded with breeze blocks, using it as an improvised form of scaffolding. Another worker stood on the pavement below as the photograph circulated on social media, causing concern among residents and prompting an investigation by Solihull Council.

The incident occurred at the junction of Bosworth Drive and Witney Drive, where the pallets had been positioned on the footpath, causing an obstruction. Following reports, the council dispatched a highways team to inspect the site. By the time officers arrived, the pallets had been removed and no further building work was evident.

Concerns voiced on social media highlighted the dangers of such unsafe working practices. One commenter noted that a proper scaffolding setup would be costly but considered the makeshift method excessively risky. Another remarked on the apparent disregard for health and safety guidelines.

No obstruction or building activity was present upon their arrival. We will continue monitoring the site and take further action if necessary.”
