British Gas is offering customers an incredible saving by cutting electricity costs by 50% for five hours every Sunday through its PeakSave initiative. Over one million customers are already benefiting from this program, which encourages shifting electricity use to off-peak times.
Since its launch, PeakSave customers have saved over £36 million on their electricity bills, with more than 150 customers saving in excess of £150 each. By moving electricity consumption to off-peak hours, British Gas homes have helped shift 40,000 MWh of electricity usage, improving grid efficiency and promoting greener energy sources.
The environmental impact has been significant as well, with a reduction of 2,939 tonnes of carbon emissions—equivalent to removing 797 cars from the road for an entire year.

British Gas explains, “Energy demand tends to be lower on Sundays, making it the perfect time for PeakSave customers to take advantage of half-price electricity. Using power between 11am and 4pm not only saves you money but also supports more sustainable energy use.”
Satisfied participants report positive changes to their routines. One customer said, “I now schedule all my washing, bulk cooking, and tumble drying on Sundays. It helps me save money and adds structure to my busy week.” Another remarked, “Opportunities like PeakSave to save on energy bills are always welcome.” A third shared, “Batch cooking on PeakSave day and doing two loads of washing feels productive and rewarding.”
British Gas also notes that it can take up to 10 days to complete eligibility checks for customers enrolling in PeakSave. Customers will receive notifications once their application is processed.
For those already registered or invited to join PeakSave, participation is easy—simply shift your electricity use to the discounted hours each Sunday. Credits depend on individual electricity usage, generation, and battery setup.
