A determined drug dealer in Tamworth has been sentenced to four years in prison after a failed attempt to evade police. Dennis Lycett, 39, was apprehended in the Amington area on Wednesday, June 4, following a pursuit by officers.
During the arrest, police raided Lycett’s home and uncovered 36 deals of crack cocaine, 13 deals of heroin, a mobile phone used to coordinate the drug supply, and over £1,000 in cash. Charged immediately, Lycett admitted to four offenses in court.
His convictions include two counts of possession with intent to supply class A drugs—heroin and crack cocaine—along with driving without a license and without insurance. Sentenced at Stafford Crown Court on Thursday, December 11, Lycett also received a six-month driving ban, his license was endorsed, and he was fined along with an additional surcharge.

Chief Superintendent Victoria Downing from Staffordshire Police’s major and organised crime unit praised the police for their swift action. “Lycett was brazen in his attempt to flee, but once arrested, we were able to link him directly to the drug operation. I’m relieved he pleaded guilty to these serious charges."
The police force reaffirmed their commitment to disrupting illegal drug activity across Staffordshire through ongoing operations. In the last year, nearly 400 arrests have been made and drugs worth more than a quarter of a million pounds seized under Operation Target.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity via the police non-emergency number 101, through the Live Chat function on the official website, or by calling 999 in emergencies.
