BMW and Mercedes Among Birmingham’s Most Targeted Stolen Cars

Recent data highlights the most stolen car models across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands region, with Toyota, BMW, and Mercedes featuring prominently on the list.

Last year, thousands of vehicles were stolen from driveways and streets throughout the area. Despite this, overall car thefts have seen a notable decline.

Ford continues to top the region’s list of stolen vehicles, particularly models like the Fiesta and Focus, though thefts involving these vehicles have decreased. Toyota follows closely behind as the second most stolen brand, with thefts on the rise—indicating a growing focus from criminals on these models.

While thefts of most cars have declined across the region, the number of stolen Mitsubishi vehicles has surged significantly by 64%, raising concerns among law enforcement.

West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster commented on the trends: “While there is still more work to do, I welcome this continued reduction in vehicle theft across the West Midlands, with offences falling by 15.5% over the past two years. This progress reflects the determined action of West Midlands Police, working alongside partners and local communities, to tackle crime, target offenders and protect the public.

“However, we cannot be complacent. While Ford vehicles remain the most stolen, we are seeing increases in other brands—particularly Mitsubishi—which is a clear reminder that criminals are constantly adapting."
