An investigation by BirminghamLive has revealed the location in Birmingham where drivers are most frequently caught speeding: the stretch between Haden Circus Roundabout and Fiveways Island on Lee Bank Middleway and Belgrave Middleway.
Using data obtained from average speed cameras around the city, BirminghamLive identified this busy corridor as the leading hotspot for speeding offences. Since the beginning of the year, nearly 7,000 drivers have been fined along this route — a clear sign that many motorists are not adhering to posted speed limits.
Of the 6,939 speeding offences recorded, 5,670 occurred heading towards Haden Circus Roundabout, while 1,269 were recorded in the opposite direction towards Fiveways Island. This equates to over 1,000 speeding violations every month on this stretch alone, underscoring the importance of vigilance for regular commuters and local drivers alike.

The effectiveness of the average speed cameras is evident, dispelling any doubts about their role in enforcing traffic safety measures across the city.
Another major speeding hotspot identified is the A4540 New John Street West, a busy route near Birmingham’s city center, where 6,679 speeding offences have been registered this year.
In an effort to improve road safety and reduce accidents, speed limits on many of Birmingham’s busiest roads were recently reduced from 40mph to 30mph. Police have been actively patrolling these areas with speed camera vans to ensure compliance with the new limits.
With thousands of drivers facing fines, the data serves as a crucial reminder: slowing down saves lives and avoids costly penalties on Birmingham’s roads.
