Birmingham’s Subside Bar Pledges No Price Hikes Amidst Reopening Rumours

Subside Bar, a staple in Birmingham’s Digbeth music scene, has addressed circulating rumours about drink price increases ahead of its reopening. The bar, currently closed for a major refurbishment, was scheduled to reopen on Friday, January 16.

Owner David Longmate and general manager Ben Mortiboy took to social media to dispel gossip suggesting a significant hike in their drink prices. Subside Bar posted an update from the staff currently enjoying a well-earned break in Thailand during the refurbishment.

The message assured patrons: “When we reopen on January 16, every single drink price will stay exactly the same. There are no planned increases for any products at the relaunch.”

They acknowledged upcoming cost pressures, including rising prices from their main brewery Molson Coors and wholesalers due in February. They also cited legal wage increases and higher utility costs expected in April. Despite these challenges, the bar has committed to maintaining current drink and admission fees until at least the end of March or April, when prices will be reassessed.

Subside Bar reaffirmed its dedication to offering rock and metal fans quality drinks at affordable prices, celebrating 18 years as Birmingham’s premier rock and alternative venue. The team expressed gratitude for the community’s long-standing support and loyalty.
