This December, Birmingham’s only 4K planetarium, located at the Thinktank science museum, is offering a unique festive treat. Alongside its usual cosmic showcases, the spectacular 360-degree dome will screen a selection of beloved Christmas movies in stunning 4K quality.
With crystal-clear surround sound and breathtaking visuals, the planetarium presents an unparalleled movie experience for families. The holiday lineup includes classic favourites such as The Muppets Christmas Carol, Gremlins, Elf, and It’s A Wonderful Life.
Visitors can enjoy these festive films on weekends and throughout the Christmas holidays, from November 29 through December 23. Tickets for the planetarium screenings cost £12 for adults and £8 for children, with discounted rates available for Thinktank members. Since seating is limited, early booking is advised to secure your spot.

The festive excitement continues at Thinktank with the return of Santa’s Grotto. Father Christmas will be visiting the science museum over weekends and holidays during the same period. Tickets to visit Santa are priced at £6.50.
For a richer experience, families can book the Santa Storytime session, featuring a live Christmas story read by Santa himself, followed by hands-on crafts in his workshop. Each child will receive a special gift and have the chance for a photo with Santa. This magical 45-minute event is free for children under 3 and costs from £9.50 for older kids.
Whether catching a classic Christmas movie or meeting Santa, the Thinktank’s festive programme offers fun and joy for all ages. Be sure to book early and embrace the holiday spirit in this incredible 4K cinematic setting.
