Birmingham has long faced challenges with serious crime in certain inner-city neighbourhoods. Incidents such as stabbings, robberies, and sexual assaults are tragic realities in some parts of the city. However, many areas stand apart as havens of safety and calm, where residents rarely encounter violence or fear.
These safer neighbourhoods, though part of Birmingham, experience far fewer incidents that dominate negative headlines. According to recent police data, these are the parts of the city where residents can typically sleep peacefully, without worrying about crime at their doorsteps.
Families looking for a secure environment often consider these areas, which offer a slower, more relaxed pace of life. Our analysis of police records for the 12 months leading to January reveals the neighbourhoods with the lowest rates of violent and sexual offences—a category that includes serious crimes such as murder, stabbing, sexual assault, domestic abuse, and violent fights.

Leafy Sutton Coldfield emerges as the safest district in Birmingham. Sutton Four Oaks recorded the fewest violent and sexual offences, with 344 incidents over the year. While this averages to nearly one incident a day, the broad category encompasses a wide range of offences. Sutton New Hall follows closely, with the Jewellery Quarter also making the list of low-crime areas. Other safe neighbourhoods include Hall Green and Nechells.
These figures present a stark contrast to the city’s high-crime zones. Districts like Lozells, East Handsworth, and Aston reported over 2,300 serious crimes during the same period, highlighting the disparity within Birmingham.
For those seeking peace of mind and safety, these quieter, more secure parts of Birmingham offer a refreshing alternative to the city’s more challenging inner-city areas.
