Birmingham’s Most Dangerous Postcodes: Where Violent Crimes Are Most Prevalent

Certain areas of Birmingham experience significantly higher levels of violent and sexual crime compared to other parts of the city. Inner-city neighborhoods, in particular, consistently report the most serious offences, with some locations recording over 2,000 violent and sexual crimes within a 12-month period.

These areas have often been affected by gang activity and ongoing local conflicts, contributing to elevated crime rates. According to West Midlands Police crime data, the Lozells and East Handsworth policing area ranks at the top for the most violent and sexual offences, followed closely by Aston. These two areas stand out as the only parts of Birmingham with more than 2,000 such crimes reported in the year ending August 2025.

Serious offences in these neighborhoods include a range of crimes, from robbery and murder to rape and domestic violence. Other areas with notably high crime rates include Acocks Green, Stockland Green, and South Yardley.

A recent example of the violence in these neighborhoods is the tragic stabbing death of 19-year-old Yassin Alma in Handsworth Wood last November. Despite a spike in stabbings before Christmas, police officials report that the overall level of violent crime in the region is declining.

These statistics highlight the ongoing challenges faced by Birmingham’s inner-city communities in combating serious criminal activity.
