Residents of Birmingham will have their final real opportunity to enjoy the city’s beer gardens this weekend, as changing weather conditions signal the close of the season. Alongside Birmingham, cities including Southampton, Bristol, Exeter, Nottingham, and Cardiff are also expected to see their last beer garden weekends fall on 12 to 13 September.
The prediction comes from Beavertown, who analysed 16 years of weather data from July to October to determine the most likely final weekends for beer garden gatherings across 25 of the United Kingdom’s largest cities.
Interestingly, last year’s interest in beer gardens peaked in the final weekend of August according to Google search trends, reflecting a strong desire to maximise outdoor socialising in warmer conditions.

This year, residents of Southampton, Cardiff, and Nottingham benefit from an additional three weeks of beer garden-friendly weather compared to last year’s closing weekend on 23 to 24 August. Birmingham, Exeter, and Bristol also enjoy an extra week, with last year’s season concluding on 6 to 7 September.
However, northern cities face a shorter beer garden season in 2024. In Scotland and parts of northern England, the forecast’s last reliable beer garden weekends fall noticeably earlier, with Glasgow and Dundee expected to end on 22 to 23 August, and Edinburgh slightly later on 29 to 30 August.
As the season concludes, Brummies and others across the country are reminded to savour these last opportunities for outdoor relaxation before colder weather sets in.
