Last month, 23-year-old Birmingham vlogger Jacob Williams embarked on his first trip outside the UK to celebrate his birthday in Egypt. A proud resident of Kingstanding, Jacob documented his experience for his YouTube channel, Brumtown UK, which boasts over 25,000 subscribers.
His journey captured both the breathtaking sights and the less pleasant realities of traveling overseas. While visiting the iconic Pyramids, Jacob described the scenery as a refreshing change from his usual views back home. However, the trip also highlighted the pushy nature of local scammers, which posed a frustrating challenge.
One notable incident involved a taxi ride where Jacob asked to be taken to the Pyramids, only to be dropped off at a family-run business. There, he was pressured into tea and a tour, with the promised visit to the Pyramids growing increasingly unlikely. A second attempt with a different driver finally brought him to his intended destination.

Reflecting on his experience in an interview with BirminghamLive, Jacob explained, “I wanted to share this first journey solo, giving my audience a genuine view of my first holiday. I expected some haggling because of the stronger currency, and while I understand the hustle, there’s a respectful way to do it.”
Jacob also recounted further issues, including a canceled Uber and a taxi driver demanding cash payment that ended up costing more. “It felt forceful at times. While I hesitate to label them all as scammers, some tactics definitely felt like taking advantage,” he said.
Despite these bumps, Jacob found the trip rewarding. “Seeing the Pyramids was like a breath of fresh air – a welcome change from familiar sights like the BT Tower,” he added.
Though his content often centers on Birmingham and the West Midlands, Jacob is eager to continue his travels. Following fan suggestions, he plans to visit Pakistan for his next international adventure.
