An 18-year-old from Birmingham, previously with no criminal record, was found carrying a zombie knife in Dolphin Lane, Acocks Green, the court heard.
Haziq Kazmi, who resides on Warwick Road, was detained along with two other youths by police officers on July 28. Upon searching Kazmi, officers discovered the knife concealed on his ankle inside his sock.
Kazmi pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 1 September. Following the guilty plea, he now faces the possibility of a custodial sentence.
Prosecutor Ms Begum outlined the circumstances: “On July 28th, around 7:30pm, officers arrived at Dolphin Lane where a foot chase had just occurred, leading to the detention of three males. When it was the defendant’s turn to be searched, he informed officers he was carrying a knife on his ankle inside his sock. He is a man of good character with no previous convictions.”
Representing Kazmi, solicitor Mr Winstance requested the court to adjourn sentencing to consider a pre-sentence report, stating: “He is a young man of good character with positive attributes. The starting point, however, is usually a custodial sentence in cases like this. It is necessary to order a report before passing sentence, especially when there is a risk of losing liberty.”
Kazmi is scheduled to be sentenced on 10 November.
