Birmingham Student’s GoFundMe Surpasses £20,000 Following Tragic Road Death

A crowdfunding campaign set up for Anisha Chakraborty, a 28-year-old student from India who tragically died after being hit by a car in Birmingham, has raised over £20,000 to support her family.

Anisha suffered fatal injuries when she was struck by a black Audi RSQ8 on Dartmouth Middleway in Duddeston at around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 30. A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs. He has since been released on bail.

Family, friends, and colleagues remember Anisha—who also worked part-time at Jimmy Spice’s restaurant on Broad Street—for her warmth, kindness, and the positivity she brought into their lives. Her restaurant manager, Shefali Karulkar, initiated the GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of repatriating Anisha’s body and her funeral expenses.

The campaign states: “Anisha was an international student in the UK, full of hope and ambition for her future. She worked diligently to build a life abroad and was deeply loved by all who knew her. This sudden loss has left her family devastated, facing emotional and financial hardship. We are raising funds to support Anisha’s family during this difficult time and ease the burden of immediate and ongoing expenses.”

West Midlands Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward, requesting anyone who was near the scene at the time or who may have dashcam footage to contact them. Witnesses can reach out via Live Chat on the police website, call 101 referring to log 460 of May 30, or email [email protected].
