Birmingham racing driver ‘blessed to be alive’ after miraculous crash escape

Ahmed Jamshaid, a racing driver from Quinton, Birmingham, has described himself as ‘blessed’ to be alive after surviving a dramatic crash at the Santa Pod drag racing track in Northamptonshire.

The father of three experienced a tyre blowout which caused him to veer into the lane of rival Matt Davison. The collision launched Ahmed’s car, known as the Silver Surfer, over 10 feet before it came to a stop just outside the track boundary.

Despite the extensive damage to the vehicle, which was written off, Ahmed escaped with only bruises and a sore neck. The incident, caught on camera, quickly went viral across social media platforms.

In response to the public interest and messages of support, Ahmed is holding an open day to allow people to see the damaged car up close and to highlight the vital role that safety equipment plays in the sport.

He posted on social media: “First and foremost, I feel truly blessed to still be here and able to write this message today. All praise belongs to the Lord.

“So many people have messaged me saying they would like to come and see me, so I’ve decided to hold an open day at BMT Garage. You’ll be able to meet me and see the damage to the BMT Drag Civic up close.

“It’s also an opportunity to understand just how important the correct safety equipment is and the huge part it plays in the racing we do. Seeing the car will show you how fortunate and blessed I am to have walked away from this accident. Everyone is welcome to come down to BMT Garage on Saturday (September 19), from 4pm until 7pm. I look forward to seeing you all.”

The event will take place at BMT Garage, Unit 4, Park Lane Business Park, Tipton, DY4 8RF.
