Birmingham Mela 2026: Road Closures, Getting There & Parking Info

Birmingham Mela is set to return on Sunday, July 26, 2026, promising another vibrant celebration of South Asian music and culture. Taking place at Victoria Park in Smethwick from noon to 8pm, the festival is expected to draw a crowd exceeding 50,000 people, making it one of the largest of its kind in Europe.

Given the anticipated turnout, Sandwell Council has announced extensive road closures around Victoria Park to manage crowds and ensure safety. These restrictions will be in effect from early morning until evening, affecting access and parking in the area.

Key road closures from 6am to 10pm include the full closure of Park Retreat and the western arm of Suffrage Street (from Corbett Street). Additional roads, such as Amity Close, Ballot Street, Barnstaple Road, Corbett Street, and others, will be closed from 7am to 8pm. Partial closures on Brook Street and Price Street will operate between 10am and 8pm.

Due to these closures, vehicle access near the park will be limited, and pick-ups or drop-offs close to the event will not be possible. Attendees are strongly encouraged to use public transportation where possible.

The nearest train station is Smethwick Rolfe Street, about a 10-minute walk from the park. Smethwick Galton Bridge station, offering additional mainline services, is approximately a 23-minute walk away. Several bus routes including 80, 87, 89, 53, and 55 also serve the vicinity, stopping adjacent to the park.

For those who choose to drive, limited parking is available at Victoria Park for £10 per day. Roadside parking will be extremely restricted due to the closures, and visitors are urged to park responsibly to avoid blocking driveways or footpaths.

To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience, allow extra time for travel and plan your journey in advance. With its rich blend of music, culture, and community spirit, Birmingham Mela 2026 promises to be an unforgettable day for all attendees.
