Birmingham Man’s Heartfelt Journey to Honor Fiancée’s Memory Through Travel

When Adam Mould’s fiancée, Annie, lost her battle with cancer before they could marry, the devastating loss left him searching for a way to keep her memory alive. Together for 12 years, Adam and Annie shared a deep bond and a passion for travel, making it a central part of their life together.

In a touching tribute, Adam chose to accompany Annie on one final journey — around the world. Carrying her ashes, he visited far-flung places that held special significance for both of them, turning grief into a meaningful act of remembrance.

Adam recalls their connection as more than love — they were best friends whose interests and hobbies intertwined seamlessly. “It’s hard when you’re left to do things by yourself because everything reminds you of them,” he said.

During Annie’s illness, Adam stepped into the role of caregiver, supporting her with unwavering devotion. Their close relationship meant that even without words, they understood each other perfectly. Following her passing, Adam took time away from his corporate job to grieve.

Returning to his role as an Account Manager felt empty. Reflecting on what truly matters, he realized, “Companies won’t miss you when you are gone. You can usually make more money, but you can’t make more time. When you see someone in their final moments, it becomes about making time count.”

His journey began in Paris, the city where they celebrated their first anniversary, scattering some ashes there. From there, he revisited Crete—where Annie had spent part of her youth—and used her old social media posts to find the exact beach she had loved.

Adam also traveled to places Annie had dreamed of visiting but never made it to, including Japan and South Africa. In Japan, he took his first solo trip since her death, embracing the challenge and finding solace in new connections. South Africa’s stunning safari landscapes became another resting place for Annie’s ashes.

Not every moment went perfectly. One memorable scattering was interrupted by a gust of wind that carried the ashes into the beers of nearby travelers, a mishap that brought a smile amid the sadness—something Adam believes Annie would have found amusing.

While traveling solo was initially intimidating, Adam found comfort in joining small group tours, quickly forging friendships. Recognizing his natural leadership and empathy, travel company WeRoad offered him a position as a Travel Coordinator, a role that has enriched his life deeply.

Helping others explore the joy of travel has become Adam’s mission. “I don’t just do the job because I love travel,” he says, “I do it because it makes me feel like I’ve found my tribe. Leading WeRoad group trips has shown me that people are fundamentally good, and I love creating ‘wow’ moments for travelers.”

Adam believes Annie would be proud of how he has transformed his pain into purpose. His message on grief is one of healing: “It never goes away, but you can learn to move forward. I’m working towards finding happiness.”
