Birmingham Farmers Market Cancels for Second Time in 20 Years Due to Ice Warning

The Kings Norton Farmers Market, renowned as one of the best farmers markets in Britain, has cancelled its event scheduled for Saturday, January 10, due to icy weather warnings. This marks only the second cancellation in the market’s 20-year history.

Held monthly on Kings Norton’s historic village green, the market attracts more than 25 local producers offering fresh, high-quality produce. Known for fostering community spirit, the market serves as a beloved gathering place for shoppers and vendors alike.

Organisers announced the cancellation on Friday, citing safety concerns: “Due to the icy weather forecast overnight, we have reluctantly decided to cancel tomorrow’s market. We hoped to proceed but were advised that it would be dangerous.”

The cancellation comes amid widespread disruption caused by Storm Goretti, which affected transport networks, schools, and businesses across the region with snow and ice. Authorities have warned of ongoing snow flurries expected to continue into Sunday.

The Kings Norton Farmers Market is scheduled to return on February 14, Valentine’s Day, when organisers hope to welcome shoppers back to the village green in better weather.
