EL&N London’s café in Birmingham has responded following its second failing hygiene inspection in a little over a year. The New Street branch received a score of two out of five during an inspection on 18 August 2026, indicating that improvement was necessary. Scores below three, which denotes a generally satisfactory rating, are considered a fail.
The café chain, which operates internationally with locations in Lebanon, Germany, Qatar and India, acknowledged the inspection results and outlined plans to raise the branch’s hygiene standards. An EL&N spokesperson emphasised that guest safety is their highest priority.
They said the company has been working closely with Birmingham City Council’s environmental health team since the inspection, addressing all areas highlighted for improvement. The council has conducted several follow-up visits to assess progress, providing guidance and support throughout.

“Our aim is to achieve a five-star rating by the end of the year,” the spokesperson added. “We have enhanced our procedures, staff training and oversight at the site. We look forward to welcoming guests in Birmingham with complete confidence in the high standards EL&N offers.”
