Tyler Nixon, a 22-year-old from Birmingham, has been banned from driving for 16 months and given a community order after being caught driving under the influence of drugs at more than four times the legal limit.
Nixon, already serving a suspended sentence for a previous offense, was stopped by police on December 15 last year after officers followed his Seat Arona from Frankley Beeches Road into a car park. A roadside drug test revealed he had 9 micrograms per liter (µg/L) of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in his system — significantly exceeding the legal limit of 2 µg/L.
Appearing unrepresented at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on May 12, Nixon pleaded guilty to driving with a specified controlled drug above the prescribed limit. When asked by the court if he had anything to say, he expressed remorse, stating, “It won’t happen again.”

During proceedings, the court learned Nixon has an extensive criminal record, including four convictions for five offenses. His last conviction, in 2026, involved burglary and theft.
Prosecutor Charmaine Robinson outlined the circumstances: police followed Nixon’s vehicle into a car park where a roadside drug test confirmed cannabis use. Subsequent blood tests confirmed drug levels over the legal threshold.
The magistrates sentenced Nixon to a 12-month community order including 50 hours of unpaid work and ten rehabilitation activity days focused on critical thinking. They emphasized the seriousness of exceeding the limit by 4.5 times, categorizing it at the upper end of category C offenses.
The court warned Nixon that driving while disqualified could lead to custody and an extended ban. Alongside the driving ban, he was ordered to pay £199 in court costs.
