A Birmingham man has been banned from driving for four years following a collision with a wall in West Bromwich. Darawan Omari, aged 29, lost control of his vehicle at approximately 1.10am on 12 July when he swerved to avoid a group of electric bikes or scooters travelling on the wrong side of the road.
The incident occurred as Omari was attempting to avoid these road users, leading to his vehicle colliding with a wall. He remained at the scene and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a roadside breath test.
Upon being taken into custody, officers suspected Omari was deliberately avoiding providing an evidential breath sample, as he was “blowing short” and not continuously blowing enough to obtain a reading.

Omari, who resides on Ludstone Road in Birmingham, admitted to failing to provide a specimen for analysis during his appearance at Dudley Magistrates' Court on 20 August.
The court was informed that Omari is employed part-time by a car valeting business. Due to a severe back injury, he no longer washes vehicles but instead manages paperwork, allowing him to work flexible hours.
Defending solicitor Abid Hussain explained that Omari had been leaving work late at night when the collision occurred. Omari had moved a car blocking his driveway and parked on a side road when he swerved to avoid the electric bikes or scooters on the incorrect side of the roadway.
Magistrates imposed a fine of £307 on Omari, along with a victim surcharge of £123 and court costs of £85, totaling £515. In addition, he received a driving disqualification of 48 months. Omari is currently awaiting British citizenship.
