At Birmingham Dogs Home, one special resident is nearing his fourth Christmas without a forever family. O’Malley, a German Shepherd cross, has captured hearts at the shelter as a loyal and affectionate companion. Despite his popularity, he has yet to find an owner to call his own.
O’Malley’s journey began as a stray, found tied up outside the centre. Though his start was rough, he has proven to be a sweet and loving dog. The shelter describes him as their “longest termer in recent times,” highlighting his need for an experienced adopter familiar with the breed.
“Once you get to know him, he is lovely,” the Dogs Home team shares. “He’s a very cheeky boy who loves to play and adores people.”

This holiday season, Birmingham Dogs Home is asking the public to remember the many dogs still waiting for a second chance. They have launched their inaugural “Festive Feast,” a heartwarming event where homeless dogs can share a special Christmas meal together at the shelter.
By donating just £5, supporters can help provide a rescue dog with its own Christmas dinner, ensuring no dog dines alone. This initiative, part of the shelter’s annual Christmas appeal and developed in partnership with Birmingham marketing agency Leopard Co, also raises vital funds to keep the kennels running through the winter months.
Rachel Frost, Events & Community Fundraising Manager at Birmingham Dogs Home, says, “We’ve always dreamed of making Christmas extra special for our residents. The festive feast gives every dog in our care a moment of joy and belonging. We’re inviting the public to help us make that happen.”
Your contribution can make a real difference to the lives of stray and abandoned dogs this Christmas, giving them warmth, care, and a celebration they deserve.
