Birmingham Coffee Shop Set for Transformation into Tesco Convenience Store

A longtime fixture in Birmingham’s city centre is undergoing a major change. The Coffee#1 branch on Newhall Street, which operated since 2017, closed its doors last year and is now being refurbished to become a Tesco convenience store.

Located next to the popular curry restaurant Asha’s, the building was previously home to Lloyds Bank before becoming Coffee#1. With visible construction underway and fencing around the site, Tesco is actively preparing the unit for its new role.

Planning applications submitted since January reveal Tesco’s intentions to convert the coffee shop into a licensed premises. A sign in the window confirms that they have applied for a premises licence, signaling the final stages before opening.

The new Tesco store will operate seven days a week, with hours from 6am to midnight, adding to the supermarket’s growing presence across Birmingham. Notably, Tesco opened another city centre convenience store on Broad Street last year.

While an exact opening date is yet to be announced, the transformation highlights the evolving retail landscape along Newhall Street, reflecting changing consumer habits in the heart of Birmingham.
