Tomoki Iwata will be sidelined for Birmingham City’s upcoming match against Watford on Monday evening after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season. The Japanese midfielder, who has impressively adapted to the right-back position in recent weeks, was booked midway through the first half of the fixture at The Hawthorns for a foul on Callum Styles.
This suspension is a significant blow for Birmingham City, as Iwata has been a crucial part of Chris Davies' lineup. With Iwata out, Bright Osayi-Samuel is the most likely candidate to step into the right-back role against the Hornets.
Adding to the concerns, Blues captain Christoph Klarer also received a booking during the West Brom match, placing him just one yellow card away from his own suspension. Given that the first yellow card amnesty of the season takes effect after the 19th game, Klarer must avoid further bookings in the upcoming matches against Watford and Southampton to stay eligible.
