Birmingham City are facing an injury concern regarding key player Demarai Gray ahead of their upcoming Championship matches against Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Gray suffered a shoulder knock during the first half of Friday night’s 2-1 victory at Wrexham, forcing him off the pitch at half-time.
The 30-year-old winger was making his first Championship start this season after scoring in each of his previous two appearances against Bristol City and Brentford. His absence leaves Blues with limited options on the left wing, as he is currently their only natural player for that position.
Manager Chris Davies confirmed after the game, “He just got a really heavy knock and he was in a lot of pain. He tried his very best to keep going but it’s something he’s had before. I thought he made an excellent start and was a bit of a catalyst for us in that first 20 minutes. Hopefully we can recover him.”

With the transfer window closing on Tuesday, Birmingham City are still in the market to recruit a left-winger to strengthen their squad. Should Gray be unable to recover in time, Davies may opt to start Patrick Roberts and shift Carlos Vicente to the left wing, a tactical adjustment he implemented during the second half at Wrexham.
The double-header at St Andrew’s Stadium against Southampton and Wolves will be critical, making Gray’s fitness a key concern for Birmingham City as they look to build on their recent win.
