With Birmingham’s Christmas Market bustling and the festive season well underway, West Midlands Railway (WMR) is encouraging locals and visitors to leave their cars at home and travel by train with a budget-friendly ticket offer.
From now until Tuesday, December 23, passengers can purchase a return ticket for just £5 between any two stations within zones 1 to 5 on the West Midlands Railway network, provided travel begins after 4pm. This offer is perfect for those heading to the Christmas Market or enjoying a night out in Birmingham.
The scheme covers journeys across a wide area, including major hubs such as Wolverhampton, Coventry, Stourbridge, and all stops in between, making it easy and affordable to explore the festive attractions and late-night events around the city.

Younger travelers benefit even more: under-17s can make additional savings with the 16 to 17 Saver Railcard, while children aged 5 to 15 enjoy a 50% discount on fares.
Jonny Wiseman, WMR’s Customer Experience Director, said, “With Christmas fast approaching, we want our customers across the West Midlands to enjoy the fantastic festive events without worrying about travel costs. This £5 ticket gives passengers the freedom to travel within our zones after 4pm, simplifying their evening plans.
“We do expect trains to be busier than usual during the holiday season, so we advise passengers to check their journeys and be considerate to staff and fellow travelers.”
Key details to remember: Tickets are valid only for travel starting after 4pm, with no exceptions. The return journey must be completed on the same day, and no other railcard discounts apply apart from the 16 to 17 Saver Railcard and child discounts.
