Birmingham Canal Transforms into a Hub for Independence Day Festivities

Independence Day is traditionally an American celebration marked by festive gatherings on the water, and this July 4th, Birmingham’s Worcester and Birmingham Canal is set to bring that spirit closer to home. Two standout venues in South Birmingham are gearing up for a lively celebration of American culture, both conveniently located within walking distance along the canal.

First up is Brew Export Beer Cave, a unique drinks warehouse featuring its own taproom and a wide variety of American beers. Situated in the Waterside Business Park between Stirchley and Cotteridge, opposite Lifford Lane, this spot boasts a sunny beer garden right by the canal. The industrial setting adds an authentic blue-collar charm, perfect for fans of gritty Americana vibes.

This year’s Independence Day weekend at Brew Export Beer Cave is a beer lover’s dream. The selection includes an East Coast vs West Coast menu showcasing IPAs, DIPAs, pales, and pilsners from breweries across the USA. Visitors can enjoy creative cream stouts infused with flavors like Biscoff biscuit, peanut butter cups, milkshakes, and cheesecake, as well as fruity smoothie sours featuring mango, passionfruit, peach, and strawberries and cream. For something different, the venue also offers mead. You can find Brew Export at Unit 4b, Waterside Business Park, 1649 Pershore Road, Birmingham, B30 3DR.

A short 15-minute stroll along Lifford Lane leads to the second hotspot: Rodeo’s – a popular honky tonk bar and a sister venue to the renowned Wolverhampton branch. Known for its lively atmosphere, Rodeo’s offers a free bucking bronco ride, a fridge stocked with American beers, a dancefloor perfect for line dancing, and walls adorned with American license plates.

This July 4, Rodeo’s will host an open-air show featuring tribute acts honoring stars like Morgan Wallen, Chris Stapleton, Lainey Wilson, and Ella Langley, alongside a second stage dedicated to acoustic performers. Mouth-watering smoked barbecue dishes complement the ice-cold beers, while Ariat, Stetson, and the Rodeos Western Store will have country and western gear available for purchase. Located at Lakeside, 180 Lifford Lane, B30 3NU, a limited number of tickets remain available at the time of writing.

Who would have thought that the Worcester and Birmingham Canal could offer such an exciting slice of Americana right in our backyard?
