The iconic Costa Coffee café on the ground floor of Birmingham’s Bullring shopping centre has been boarded over as refurbishment work gets underway on the popular unit. Since opening alongside the Bullring itself in 2003, Costa has been a key fixture in the retail hub, serving customers for 23 years.
While white hoarding now obscures the café from view, the Bullring assures patrons that Costa has not left the centre or its current location. Instead, the site is undergoing an extensive refresh to revitalize the space ahead of its reopening.
Adding to the transformation in the café scene at Bullring, a brand new outlet called Vyve is set to open soon. Specializing in coffee and matcha beverages with a variety of unique flavors, Vyve will also bring acai bowls back to the shopping centre. This development fills the void left by Oakberry, which closed at the end of 2025.

Vyve will occupy a kiosk adjacent to the popular Batch’d cookie shop, just a stone’s throw from the Costa unit, offering customers more choice in their coffee and healthy snack options.
Costa has not publicly commented on specific plans for the Bullring branch, but its presence remains secure. This change follows the closure of Costa’s Grand Central branch in October 2025 after a decade in operation, a space now occupied by Black Sheep coffee.
As the Bullring evolves, shoppers can look forward to refreshed café experiences and new flavors to enjoy in the heart of Birmingham.
