A number of schools across Birmingham and the Black Country have announced early closures or complete shutdowns due to a rare red heat warning issued by the Met Office. Parents have been notified throughout Tuesday as temperatures soar to dangerous levels.
With the challenge of keeping school buildings cool and safe under extreme heat, several schools have shifted to remote learning or reduced schedules for the coming days.

- Washwood Heath Academy: Secondary students will finish early at 12:30pm, primary at 12:40pm. Remote learning will continue.
- Bellfield Schools (Daycare, Nursery, Infants): Closing at 1:30pm for the following three days.
- Oasis Community Learning (Wattville Road): Closed from 1:30pm Tuesday; fully closed Wednesday and Thursday due to heat warning; Friday remains a staff inset day.
- Hodge Hill Primary: Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.
- Halesowen College: All lessons will move online on Wednesday and Thursday; evening theatre performances continue with daily risk assessments.
- Thornton Primary and Sladefield Infant Schools: Students to be picked up by 1pm Wednesday and Thursday due to unsafe classroom temperatures.
- Wood Green Academy: Closing Wednesday and Thursday due to overheating issues; most classrooms face south and are prone to high temperatures.
- Coleshill School: Closed Wednesday and Thursday for temperature safety concerns.
- Lift Lea Forest School: Closed Wednesday and Thursday following official guidance; reopening planned for Monday 29th June.
- New Ways School (Kings Norton): Closed for two days; work packs will be sent for remote learning.
- Arthur Terry School (Sutton Coldfield): Closed Wednesday and Thursday after efforts to mitigate heat proved insufficient; safety prioritized.
- Holy Hill School (Rednal): Closing at 1pm Wednesday and Thursday; students allowed to wear PE kits all week for comfort.
