Birmingham Airport Sees Slight Rise in Flight Cancellations in 2025, But Remains Below National Average

Birmingham Airport experienced a small uptick in flight cancellations throughout 2025, according to new data covering the period from January to November. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) data reveals that 1% of scheduled flights from Birmingham Airport were cancelled, compared to 0.90% during the same timeframe in 2024.

Despite this rise, Birmingham’s cancellation rate remains below the national UK average of 1.09%. The data was compiled by AirAdvisor in a report analyzing the 20 largest airports across the country.

Several other major airports recorded higher cancellation rates in 2025, including Belfast City with 2.16%, Aberdeen at 1.83%, and London City Airport at 1.48%.

Anton Radchenko, CEO of AirAdvisor, commented on the findings: “While cancellations at Birmingham Airport increased slightly in 2025, travellers should take comfort that the airport’s overall rate remains lower than the UK average. With national improvements in reducing cancellations, 2026 is shaping up to be an even smoother year for passengers flying through the Solihull hub.”

He added that cancellations are generally a last resort, often driven by unexpected factors like severe weather or technical problems with aircraft, rather than persistent issues with any specific airport.

A spokesperson for Birmingham Airport stated: “Operational challenges sometimes necessitate flight cancellations. Although this can be disappointing, the airport and airlines collaborate closely to minimize disruption. This commitment is reflected in the fact that only 1% of scheduled flights were cancelled last year.”

Birmingham Airport remains dedicated to providing reliable service and aims to further reduce cancellations in the coming year.
