Birmingham Airport has clear parking regulations designed to keep traffic flowing safely and efficiently for all visitors. Whether you’re dropping off someone, picking up passengers, or parking long-term, understanding these rules will help you avoid unexpected fines and make your visit hassle-free.
The airport employs a barrier-less Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system at its main drop-off zones. Since there are no physical barriers at exit points, you must pay for your parking within 24 hours of leaving. Payments can be made through on-site ticket machines, the NCP Post Pay online portal, or by setting up an NCP AutoPay account.
In the official drop-off car park, the first 10 minutes are free, after which charges apply. However, the Premium Set Down area, situated right next to the terminal, has no free parking period—fees start immediately upon arrival.

To maintain smooth traffic flow, all approach roads near the terminal are designated Red Routes, marked with double red lines. Stopping, waiting, or unloading passengers on these routes is strictly prohibited and monitored by cameras. Even a brief stop results in an automatic £100 fine.
If you’re collecting arrivals, avoid the rapid drop-off zones unless your passenger is already waiting at the curb. Instead, use the short-stay multi-storey car parks (Car Parks 1, 2, and 3), located within a short walk of the arrivals terminal. Car Park 5 also offers spaces for collections, but standard hourly parking rates apply to all short-stay options.
Blue Badge holders benefit from special provisions to ensure accessible travel. Disabled drivers or passengers can park free for up to 30 minutes in the Premium Set Down car park, closest to the terminal. To access this, present your entry ticket and valid Blue Badge at the NCP customer service desk inside the terminal for validation before returning to your vehicle.
For long-term parking, the on-site lots are self-park facilities where you park your vehicle and keep your keys. If you’re towing a trailer, your entire vehicle and trailer must fit within a single bay; occupying two bays will incur double charges.
Motorcyclists enjoy free parking but must use the designated sheltered motorcycle area inside Car Park 2. Parking a motorbike in a regular car space could lead to full parking charges or vehicle removal.
