Due to the ongoing third heatwave this summer, over 200,000 households across the UK are experiencing changes to their bin collection schedules. Councils in Hampshire, including Southampton, Eastleigh, and Fareham, have moved collection times earlier in the day to ensure the safety and wellbeing of their waste collection crews.
Residents in Southampton are now asked to place their bins out by 5:30 AM on collection days until further notice. Eastleigh Borough Council has been operating with crews starting at 5:30 AM since July 6, while Fareham has adopted the same schedule. A spokesperson for the Hampshire councils emphasized that crew welfare remains a priority and confirmed that further updates will be provided as needed.
Further north, North Yorkshire Council announced earlier start times for waste collections in key areas such as Craven and Harrogate on July 9 and 10. This measure aims to shield workers from the extreme heat expected in the lead-up to the weekend. Residents in affected areas are encouraged to place bins out earlier than usual to support the crews.

Looking ahead, the Met Office forecasts generally settled but warm weather across the UK starting July 13, influenced by high pressure to the north and low pressure near the Bay of Biscay. While temperatures are expected to remain warm or very warm with occasional thunderstorms, especially in the south, the latter part of July into August may bring more unsettled conditions with spells of wet and windy weather. Despite these variations, warm and hot weather spells are likely to continue intermittently.
