Bin Collection Day Changes for 32,000 UK Households Starting April 13

Starting April 13, approximately 32,000 households across Weymouth, Portland, Chickerell, and Osmington will experience changes to their waste and recycling collection schedules. While some residents will have their collection day altered, others will see no change. Additionally, some may notice variations in the collection times.

During the transition, select households may receive an extra bridging collection or be permitted to place a limited amount of side waste outside their bins. Each affected household will receive a letter detailing their new collection day, any changes to collection times, and specific arrangements that apply. If no letter is received, residents can assume their current collection schedule remains unchanged.

Cllr Jon Andrews, Dorset Council’s Cabinet Member for Place Services, emphasized the importance of this update: “Every household affected by this will receive a letter from us over the next couple of weeks. Please look out for your letter – everything you need to know will be in it.

“Efficient waste collection is a vital service, and by leveraging advanced data and modern route-planning tools, we can maintain a reliable service without adding extra vehicles or crews. These changes ensure our collection services remain efficient and resilient as the Weymouth, Portland, and nearby communities continue to grow.

“If your household is impacted, you will receive detailed information by letter, and our teams will be available to assist with any questions.”
