Beware iPhone Calendar Scam Threatening Photo Deletion: How to Delete Spam Events

iPhone users are being targeted by a new scam where cybercriminals send alarming ‘final warnings’ through the Calendar app, falsely claiming that all photos will be deleted. These fraudulent alerts often urge users to act quickly by clicking on phishing links, which can compromise personal information.

Scammers are exploiting the iPhone calendar to create bogus events reminding users to “increase to unlimited storage” or stating that a “payment for Cloud storage has failed.” Such alerts frequently span several months, increasing the likelihood that users will fall victim.

Apple recognizes this issue and provides clear instructions on how to remove unwanted spam calendars and events from your iPhone. These scam calendars usually appear as subscriptions you may have accepted unknowingly.

To delete these spam invites on iPhones running iOS 14.6 or later:

  1. Open the Calendar app and tap on the suspicious event.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and select “Unsubscribe from this Calendar.”
  3. Confirm by tapping “Unsubscribe.”

For users with earlier iOS versions:

  1. Open the Calendar app and tap “Calendars” at the bottom.
  2. Locate the unknown calendar and tap the information (“i”) button next to it.
  3. Scroll down and tap “Delete Calendar.”

Following these steps will remove unwanted spam calendar subscriptions and keep your device safe from phishing attempts.
